Archival and Digital Preservation of Books
CISS is committed to the digitization and archival of rare and valuable books, particularly those that contribute to the understanding of South Indian culture, politics and society. These books are collected through a network of volunteers, donors and independent sources. Wherever necessary, copyright permissions are duly obtained to ensure legal and ethical access. All digitized materials are made available free of cost to the public, promoting the open dissemination of knowledge and nurturing a culture grounded in scientific temper and critical inquiry.
Translation and Cross-Lingual Knowledge Sharing
To ensure the wider reach of South Indian philosophical, cultural and political ideas, CISS undertakes the translation of influential texts from regional languages into English and between regional languages. This initiative aims to bridge linguistic divides and bring diverse intellectual traditions into broader academic and public conversation.
Promotion of Authorship and Scholarly Writing
CISS actively encourages writers and scholars to produce original academic and analytical works that align with its mission. The Centre offers support for writing, reviewing and publishing efforts, fostering a vibrant culture of research and scholarship on topics related to Indian social thought, politics and culture.
Oral Histories and YouTube Archive
To preserve and share lived experiences and intellectual insights, CISS maintains a YouTube-based archive featuring recorded interviews with professionals, scholars and cultural icons. These conversations highlight key themes such as Indian philosophies, political movements and social transformations, making first-hand perspectives accessible to scholars, students and the general public.
Academic Seminars, Workshops and Conferences
CISS regularly organizes seminars, conferences, and workshops that align with its academic and cultural mission. These events provide platforms for dialogue, debate and scholarly exchange across disciplines, encouraging in-depth exploration of themes relevant to Indian society, political thought, humanism and cultural heritage.
Scholarships and Research Support
In line with its educational mission, CISS provides financial assistance and scholarships to students and researchers in the field of social sciences. These grants are aimed at supporting academic pursuits, field research and the development of original contributions to the disciplines of history, sociology, political science and related areas.
Collaborations and Institutional Partnerships
CISS welcomes Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with academic institutions, research organizations, cultural bodies, and civil society groups that share its vision. Such collaborations aim to strengthen academic networks, promote joint research initiatives and expand the collective impact on public knowledge and intellectual engagement.
Peer-Reviewed Journal and Scholarly Publications
CISS is committed to advancing academic discourse through the publication of a peer-reviewed journal focused on Indian social studies. The journal will feature research articles, critical essays, interviews, translations and book reviews that reflect the Centre’s interdisciplinary scope. Additionally, CISS will support the publication of monographs, research papers, and edited volumes under its own imprint, thereby amplifying original and significant contributions in the fields of Indian philosophy, politics, culture and social sciences.
Capacity Building and Research Training
To strengthen academic rigor and professional skills among scholars and practitioners, CISS will organize training programs and workshops on key areas such as archival practices, digital preservation, academic writing, research ethics and translation methodologies. These initiatives aim to build capacity among students, researchers and volunteers, ensuring quality and sustainability in both scholarship and archival projects.
